w00t - party, another German Shepherd, and old man Sully

We walked to Cook oval as soon as I returned home for work. We caught Jake leaving the oval, so he returned briefly to the party that was in session.

Molly the black Labrador was there (we hadn't seen her for ages), Tosca, and Jack were chasing each other and Kane joined in the chase. Kel the blond Labrador arrived and Jake soon left. Kane was very fixated on Molly. She is a bit of an alpha female. Melba the Border Collie also made a brief appearance.

After half an hour, the party broke up, but we soon spotted a German Shepherd so we went over to say hello. He was a five year old called Thunder and very hyperactive.

Then a few other dogs joined in the late shift including Melba (on her second trip), another Border Collie with strange markings, and old man Sully.

We walked home part of the way with old man Sully and his person Sue. Sully is also 15 years old with bad arthritis, but now runs around like a young pup.

It was an excellent one hour outing.

Monday... also boring

We started walking around the big block, but I started feeling faint so we turned home, but we did manage to walk a loop of a smaller block in half the usual time.

So it was more of a half big block walk.

boring Sunday

Poor puppy, I left him for a couple of hours in the afternoon. This morning I was doing chores like laundry so we didn't go on an early walk.

I returned at 5.40pm with Devi. I made Devi wait outside the door to let Kane in first and she rang the door bell, but Kane didn't bark.

Anyway, we set off on our walk to Macquarie oval but nobody was there so we continued on the big block walk. Kane kept up at a good pace and didn't even stop as much to smell as he usually does.

Kane's favourite football player was in town this weekend, but he didn't phone to come on a walk with Kane.

We had two walks today.

The first was after midday to the shops. As it was becoming warmer, we walked the short way, apart from circling the outside of the complex before returning home.

Later in the afternoon we walked to Macquarie oval. It was another great party, although not as busy as yesterday's. Genie and Jimmy had a good tussle that even Kane wanted to join. We met an 11 year old German Shepherd called Tess, who was only being minded. Tess barked and fetched sticks. I asked Tess to teach Kane some of her tricks, but Kane wasn't interested.

Kane seemed tired, so we didn't do anymore block walking. He must have worn himself out catching up with new and old canine friends.

Kane had fresh (poached) fish the last two dinners, with the carrot/cabbage/rice mix. Tonight, he had sirloin steak with cauliflower and green beans with brown rice and some of the Advance food for sensitive skin. He likes beans.

the best puppy party ever

We went on our walk a little bit earlier today, at 5.3opm to Macquarie oval.

There was a huge puppy party in session. Nearly every canine regular was there, except for Bruno, plus doggies we hadn't seen for awhile and some new ones. Not all pictured below. There were about 20 at one stage.

It was so much fun. Aside from greeting all his friends, Kane also enjoyed going up to the people for pats.

After the party began dispersing after 6pm, we walked around the rest of the big block, along with Milco for part of the way.

Millhouse and a party

I was home from work earlier than usual so we set out on our walk right away. We walked to Cook oval instead of Macquarie oval. When I walked past Macquarie oval on my way home there was nobody there.

On the way to Cook oval, we saw Millhouse who was on his way home. Millhouse is such a great dog. He will be having a fur cut tomorrow, so he'll look less shaggy.

When we arrived at Cook oval, Margot and Tai were chasing each other. Then Kel arrived, but Margot soon left. It didn't stop Tai from egging Kel on to chase him.

better than the big block walk

This evening we said hello to the neighbours next door (the people, not Scotch the Dobermann) before venturing to Cook oval. There wasn't a puppy party in session - we were too late, so we walked past Cook shops and around the block.

We walked past our house and Kane went to straight to Jet's house. As always, Kane invited himself in, so Therese let us round the back to say hi to Jet. Jet always wants to play, but Kane didn't and after a minute or two, he wanted to go back inside the house. It's Kane's way of saying he'd finished visiting.

Therese and I think that Kane visits to check up on things.

It was a good 35 minute outing.

Tuesday fun day

I saw Bruno and his person on the way home from work as they were leaving Macquarie oval, so I gave Bruno lots of pats. When I returned home, even Kane was excited to smell Bruno on my hands.

We went on our walk immediately to the oval and there was a huge puppy party on. Tazz, Zulu, Rosie, Genie, Pepper, Jimmy, Milko and a few new canines were there. From 100 metres out, Kane spotted the party and took off like a rocket to join them.

Of course, Kane's favourite was Milko and he spent all his time chasing after him.

After 20 minutes or so, the party ended as it became dark. Kane and I continued on to the shops where I did some grocery shopping which took 15 minutes and then we walked home, first walking around the outside of the complex.

It was a fun outing lasting nearly an hour and a half.

it's raining, it's pouring

Poor puppy. We couldn't go out walking tonight because of the rain.

Not only that, I fell asleep on the couch after returning home from work and after nearly two hours, woke up in time for Kane's dinner time.

I have decided to add 2g of flaxseed oil to his dinner instead of cod liver oil for the time being.

Sunday not fun day

Poor puppy, I made him wait until the afternoon again before we ventured out.

We walked to the markets as the local pet store had a 'fun day' and I had promised Kane that I would take him. There wasn't anything much extra than any other day, except for a table from the RSPCA, a sales rep from Hills Science Diet, and a few balloons. We did meet a very nice Daschund called Cindy there. There were a few other smaller dogs at the markets but they only barked at Kane. A few people commented on how well behaved Kane was, not like those yappy little dogs.



We stocked up on some Advance wet food for sensitive skin. Now that the weather is warming, I am brushing Kane regularly to remove some of his undercoat. Even though he has cod liver oil with dinner, his skin is still dry and flakes out with the brushing, like dandruff. I might have to start moisturising Kane's fur and skin again using Lanolin.



After the markets we walked home past Macquarie oval.

After an hour's rest we went out on the evening walk. We visited Jet first who wanted to play with his ball. After that we continued around the little block and then continued on to visit Klaudia and Sally. Martin was also visiting his mum and sister. Kettles the cat wasn't allowed out in case she attacked Kane. We didn't stay very long, but it was dark when we returned home.

Poor puppy, we didn't venture out until the afternoon.

First we walked to the shops, met two new dogs there, and walked back the long way home via the green way.

Later in the afternoon, we visited Jake who had a Daschund staying with him, who was scared of Kane and kept barking at him. From there we walked to Macquarie oval but there was nobody there so we went to Cook oval. Along the way we met up with Jimmy the Border Collie puppy and walked with him.

At Cook oval, there was a puppy party in session with Desker and Tully (both Shelties), Melba, Tosca, Tobey, Nahla and the black Customs dog.

It was a lot of fun. The 'Customs dog' is still a puppy and will undergo full training once he is one year old.

big block walk unleashed

Tonight we went on the big block walk after dinner time.

Kane now does the walk unrestrained. At the start of the walk he likes to smell most of the trees along the way and a few other gossip patches.

Somehow, despite the pace, the walk always takes exactly 30 minutes.

We did call into Jet's place and talked to him through his gate. Hopefully he settled down after that. We heard him barking and barking as we approached our part of the street. His people were out.

Kane has become a good guard dog.

When Emily arrived this evening, Kane barked at the door. Of course, I have to tell him that someone is at the door first!

We didn't go on our walk until after dinner. Emily came on the walk and it was the big block walk, which somehow always takes exactly 30 minutes.

w00t Wednesday

I had the day off work today and spent most of the morning waiting for the oven repairer to arrive.

When the repairman arrived late morning, I left Kane on the deck outside. Kane was able to hear and see the van and barked. Good dog!

This afternoon, we walked to the markets. Usually I go on the way home from work for Kane's beef bones and chicken wings. It was much more fun to go with Kane. I left him outside the organic butcher (for beef bones) and he made two new friends - Bella and Trinity (Trinity, pictured below is an 18 month old German Shepherd).

After that, we went into the pet store and Kane said hello to Splat the cat. Splat actually went up really close to Kane to smell his ears. In fact, Kane wasn't interested at all.

After visiting Splat, I left Kane just outside the chicken shop (for chicken wings). Kane likes to keep me in sight but kept on creeping closer and closer through the door.

The outing took under an hour.

After half an hour's rest, we walked to Cook oval. It was after 5pm and nobody was there! Then we saw Zulu and Taz arrive. There were two Dalmatians who were doing laps with their person and Kane, Zulu and Taz had a lot of fun intercepting them. After a little bit, we all left. We were out for only 35 minutes.

I was going to continue on to Macquarie oval, but Kane looked like he wanted to go home for a rest and a drink of water.

the big block walk and playing with Milco

This evening we went on the big block walk. When we reached the other side of the block, which is adjacent to Macquarie oval, we spied a small puppy party in session.

We walked to the oval and Kane saw them at a distance, with interest. We saw Genie and Milco chasing each other. Kane loves Milco, so joined in the chasing even though he couldn't keep up with the younger pups. Pepper was also there.

After 15 minutes, it became dark and Milco had to go home. Kane and I continued on the big block walk.

Monday Monday

It has been raining since late afternoon, so we didn't go on a walk. I cleaned the oven instead and Kane somehow knew to stay out of the kitchen.

Sometimes Kane leaves his tongue poking out. It looks funny.

Momo behaving badly

This morning Momo came over just before 10am to stay over for the day.

When Momo and Mary arrived, Kane barked at the door. Actually Kane didn't hear the door chime until I told him we had visitors.

Momo was a very silly puppy and followed Kane everywhere. He ran around in circles and chased air. Eventually, I put him outside on the deck by himself until he calmed down.

It rained all morning and stopped in the afternoon. Kane, Momo and I then walked to Cook shops. I had to tie both of them to a post while I went in to buy a packet of brown rice. When I came outside, Momo was barking at two people going to their car. Such a naughty dog.

Momo also pulled on the lead and took no notice of how well behaved Kane was walking without a lead.

Mary came over at 5pm to take Momo home. I think Kane was relieved.

finding Liam

We had two good walks today. The weather is also warming up so it was a nice day to be out.

This morning Kane was lying on the kitchen floor - he likes being there when I prepare food. He stayed there while I was on the couch watching something on the laptop. Suddenly, Kane started barking. He must have thought I had disappeared.

Our first walk was in the early afternoon to the shops. We walked the short way to the shops and after my grocery shopping we walked around the outside of the centre. We saw our next door neighbours at a cafe having coffee so stopped for a quick hello.

On the way home, we started from the end of the green way, but then Kane decided to turn right into an alley so we walked back that way. Sometimes I let Kane decide the route.

On our late afternoon walk, we went to Macquarie oval, but nobody was there, so we did the circuit back home. Outside Jake's house we saw Jimmy the Border Collie puppy coming up from a path, so we said hello. They had just returned from Cook oval, so we started walking that way.

A strange dog then crossed the road by himself to come over. He was very timid and when kane wagged his tail, he became playful. We crossed the road to the park nearby and I asked two girls if he was their dog. They said, no so I checked his tag and phoned the number. Liam is a Staffordshire Terrier Red Heeler (cattle dog) cross and wanted to play with Kane. Anyway, his person came to take him home. We didn't continue on to Cook oval as it started getting dark.

Friday long walk

We had a lovely long walk this evening. It was still light when I returned home from work and we immediately set out on our walk to Cook oval.

We hadn't been to Cook oval for some time. At the oval there were two brown Staffordshire Terriers without their people, and without collars. Thankfully, we found a canine friend - Millhouse the black Labradoodle.

Millhouse's person decided not to stay because of the two Staffys, so we left with them. It was great walking with Millhouse. We walked with them towards the shops, and they turned off home. We decided to continue to the shops. Poor Kane, he so wanted to keep following Millhouse.

Anyway, it was a brief stop at the shops and we continued on around the outside of the shops and returned home the short way, by which time it was dark.

It was a good outing of one hour and 20 minutes.

finally, a puppy party

We walked to Macquarie oval this afternoon while it was still light and joined in a puppy party in session. Nell ran to greet Kane as she always does, such a lovely Cocker Spaniel. Unfortunately, Bruno was just leaving.

Rosie, Lil, Cos, Genie and Viva were there, along with two new dogs called Genie (another one) and Pepper.

After five minutes everybody started leaving as it was getting dark, so we continued along the big block walk.

It was a good outing.

night patrol

After last night's super walk, we took it easy tonight. It was just a short patrol around the block. It was also a late walk.

The short patrol is still a great walk as Kane goes unleashed and stops when and where he wants to check out the local neighbourhood canine gossip.

I made 12 baked whole sardines for Kane's dinner, served with cold cooked broccoli. He likes fish.
