a mean German Shepherd

We didn't go to the playing fields tonight, but Kane had an exciting time. He said hello to a Red Setter who lives up the road, then I took him back to Tim and Toni's for a few minutes to say hello to the kids. Then we walked to the shops. On the way back, the young German Shepherd guard dog (Sasha) at the apartment block building site, opposite the shops, started barking (behind a fence of course). No reaction from Kane - he is such a calm dog. Her handler came over to calm her down. We had a chat. He told me she is two and a half years old and fully police trained. Trained to hate other dogs! Hmph!

a dog's day afternoon

Today was a dog's day afternoon, and a dog's day morning. This morning I washed Kane in the bathtub and he seemed to quite enjoy it. When I rinsed him off, the water was brown! Then I took him for a walk to the local shops to dry off.

This evening, I walked Kane and along the way we convinced Jake and his handler (who live nearby) to come along. At the playing field, Kane would only chase after Jake who was fetching a ball. He also met Rosie, a three legged dog; and Ripley a Doberman and Vinnie a Border Collie Kelpie cross who were all intent on chasing ball, but not Kane. We were out for nearly 90 minutes. A pretty exciting day for Kane.

Today was a warm day. I took Kane on two walks, once to the shops in the afternoon and again in the evening before I fed him his dinner. On the second walk, I made a quick visit to Tim and Toni's house where their daughter Phrim was quite happy to meet such a nice dog.

where's the party?

(morning)

Poor Kane. I took him on a walk this evening and he sat at the playing fields waiting for Jake, who didn't turn up. Maybe tomorrow.

Jake

Kane was pretty happy today - a walk to playing fields where he met up with the Kelpie called Jake and some lamb and turkey as treats.

Jake

Kane enjoyed his walk late this afternoon. We found Jake at the playing fields playing fetch with his ball.

Sunday, December 23, 2007

After my nap, I took Kane on a long walk. He met up with Jake again, and a Doberman and Border Collie. Kane did not want to go home.

day 5

After Sue B left, I took Kane for a walk. It was timely as it started to rain after we got home.

day 4

Kane seems to have settled in very comfortably. He is supposedly going deaf, but somehow he can hear the refrigerator door open.

day 3

Kane certainly enjoyed going for a long walk in the afternoon!

day 2

Kane sure likes treats. I gave Kane some smoked beef this morning when I made my sandwich to take for lunch. He wasn't interested in the raw carrot though.

After work I took Kane on a walk to the local playing field. He met Jake, the Kelpie who lives down the road, as well as two other local dogs including a Labrador. He must have been quite content as his tail was wagging.

Kane's arrival

Tonight, Kane (the 15 year old German Shepherd) was dropped off by his human Margie. She also brought over food (tinned dog food and dry dog biscuits) to last two months. After Kane was fed, I took him for a walk around the block. He's very quiet.
